Halloween 2014

Halloween! Oh man, it was a GOOD one. The longer I do this Mom thing the more I realize that my family works best when there are just no expectations or ideas of how things are "supposed" to be. And I guess you could sub the words "my family" for "I" and it would make even more sense, since as long as I'm trying my best to be easy-breezy everything falls into place. There have been many years and many occasions where my perfectionist tendencies ruined moments or soured experiences. That's not easy to admit, you know? But I'm past that, and I'm better having gone through it and come out on the other, trying to always go with the flow side. Holiday stress is (almost) non-existent around these parts and that's pretty cool.

So, we started the day with the annual Halloween parade and party at Henry's school. It was so fun- tons of snacks and Halloween games, and a good way to start the morning. After the party we headed home for naps and lunch before we headed out for trick-or-treating. This year Henry picked out our costumes and we went as a superhero family. The whole night he kept saying "this is SO cool!" and really, what's better than that? We did our usual downtown trick-or-treating on Mt. Vernon and was spooky and special and fun as always (see previous years here). We ended the "kid portion" of the night at Veronica's restaurant eating pizza and laughing over wine as the kids played. Later on Laur and I headed out to a friend's party dressed as lumberjacks, and it was really the best end to a great day.

I hope that whatever you did, you had a wonderful evening too. Henry's already planning out next year's costumes and I can't wait to see what he comes up with!
